Lucas
Also known as: Lucas the butler / Sir Lucas · Family: Arthur's host · Role: butler · First appears: Book I, Chapter XI
In Book I, Chapter XI, Lucas the butler was awarded the tourney prize alongside Sir Kay and Sir Griflet by three kings. When Sir Griflet was thrown down, Lucas remounted him, and the two “did marvellous deeds of arms with many bachelors.”
By Book I, Chapter XIV, King Brandegoris, King Idres, and King Agwisance had thrown Lucas and Sir Griflet to the ground. Sir Griflet then struck down a knight, took his horse, and gave it to Lucas so he could mount and revenge his hurts.
In Book I, Chapter XV, Lucas fought beside Sir Gwinas, Briant, and Bellias of Flanders against six kings, including King Lot, King Nentres, King Brandegoris, King Idres, and King Uriens. He also faced King Agwisance directly, charging him with a great short spear and knocking both king and horse to the earth.
