Pandion
Family: Egyptian · Role: prince · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 2.1
🌐 Also appears in: The Metamorphoses of Ovid (as Pandion)
Pandion was an Egyptian prince, born to Cecrops. In the accounts, he married Callidice and also Zeuxippe, his mother’s sister; with Zeuxippe he fathered Erichthonius, Procne, Philomela, Erechtheus, and Butes. He later faced Labdacus in a war over boundaries and gave his daughter Procne in marriage to Tereus.
Pandion also married Pylia at Megara and had four sons by her: Aegeus, Pallas, Nisus, and Lycus. When Pandion died, his sons divided his inheritance, giving Erechtheus the kingdom and Butes the priesthood of Athena and Poseidon Erechtheus. In another account, Phineus believed Idaea’s false accusation and blinded his stepsons Plexippus and Pandion.
