Greek Mythology

Eurydice

Family: Nemea · Role: mother of Opheltes · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 1.3

🌐 Also appears in: The Metamorphoses of Ovid (as Eurydice)

Eurydice was married to Orpheus. After she died from a snake bite, Orpheus went down to Hades and persuaded Pluto to send her back, but when he looked behind him on the way home, she returned to the underworld.

Eurydice was also married to Lycurgus and was the mother of Opheltes. In another account, Acrisius fathered Danae by her; she is identified as the daughter of Lacedaemon and Sparta, while another tradition calls her the daughter of Adrastus. The material also names her as the wife of Acrisius and Ilus, and as the mother of Laomedon through Ilus.
