Modred
Family: Britons · Role: nephew of Arthur · First appears: Book IX 7–10
Modred was the son of Lot and the sibling of Walgan. In Book X, before marching with his army, Arthur entrusted the government of Britain to Modred and Guanhumara: “he committed the government of the kingdom to his nephew Modred, and queen Guanhumara”.
At the beginning of the following summer, Modred treasonably seized Britain’s crown, and Guanhumara married him in violation of her first marriage. At Germany, Cheldric entered into a covenant to obey Modred as sovereign in exchange for promised territories. During Arthur’s assault, Modred fell with many thousands of his men.
