Cael

Family: Fianna · Role: warrior · First appears: The Fianna · The Battle of the White Strand · Cael and Credhe

At Brugh na Boinne, Cael visited his nurse Muirenn, daughter of Derg, to ask about Credhe, the woman he had seen in a dream. At Loch Cuire, Finn spoke for Cael, who asked Credhe to marry him and sang the poem she required of suitors. She took him for her husband, and the wedding-feast lasted seven days, with the Fianna.

In the Great Fight, Cael, son of Crimthan of the Harbours, pulled Finnachta of the Teeth from the ship; they grappled and sank together. Fergus later reported that Cael and Finnachta Fiaclach, the last of the foreigners, had drowned one another. Credhe lamented that since the son of Crimthann was drowned, she would love no one else; then she died of grief beside Cael. They were buried in one grave, and Caoilte raised the stone over them.
