Aquila

Family: Christian · Role: tentmaker · First appears: Acts 18

Aquila is a Christian tentmaker who, in Acts 18, is described as a Jew born in Pontus who had recently come from Italy with his wife, Priscilla, after Claudius commanded Jews to leave Rome. In Ephesus, he worked alongside Paul, who shared his craft, “for by their occupation they were tentmakers.” Aquila and Priscilla also took Apollos aside and “expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.”

By Romans 16, Aquila and Priscilla were Paul’s helpers in Christ Jesus and had risked their lives for him. In 1 Corinthians 16, Aquila and Priscilla sent greetings and were identified as hosting a church in their house.
