Ná‘hläshi

Also known as: Aged Buck · Role: one of the Kâ´yemashi · First appears: Section 21 · The Birth of the Old-Ones or Ancients of the Kâ´kâ

In Section 21, Ná‘hläshi is one of the twelve children of Síweluhsiwa and Síwiluhsitsa, born to them “In time there were born to these twain, twelve children.” He is the younger brother of Pótsoki; when their unnamed younger brother was carried off by the Snail Kâ´kâ of the South, Ná‘hläshi grieved and nearly rubbed his eyes out.

The children became attendants and fosterers, sages and interpreters of the ancient dance-dramas or the Kâ´kâ. Ná‘hläshi is described as the biggest of them all, looking ancient but “as frisky as a fawn.”
