Pausanias' Description of Greece

Diagoras

Family: Rhodes · Role: son of Damagetus · First appears: Book 4 · Chapter 24

Diagoras was descended from the daughter of Aristomenes on his mother’s side. His descendants were known as the Diagoridæ in Rhodes, and Damagetus was his father.

In Book 6, Diagoras was described as the maternal grandfather of Eucles and as the father of Acusilaus, Damagetus, Dorieus, and Callipatira. He came to Olympia with his sons Acusilaus and Damagetus; Dorieus won victories at Olympia, the Isthmian games, and the Nemean games. Pisirodus, whose statue stood near his maternal grandfather’s, was also mentioned alongside Diagoras at Olympia. Diagoras’s statue was made by Callicles.

In Book 10, Diagoras was among those whose statues stood behind those of Spartans and allies who fought for Lysander at the battle of Ægos-potamoi; the statues were by Tisander.
