Tushkevitch

Role: guest · First appears: PART TWO · Chapter 6

At chapter 40, Tushkevitch was linked romantically with Betsy, and guests at Bolshaia Morskaia alluded to “the relations of Tushkevitch with their hostess.” By chapter 86, he was walking with Betsy and her young relation, and was sent with Masha to try the croquet ground. At dinner in chapter 156, Anna almost flirted with him, while he offered his services to her; afterward, he went to get a box at the opera.

In chapter 176, Tushkevitch was described as Betsy’s admirer, but she had rejected him: “Now he’s been thrown over and he’s come to see us.” He then appeared among Anna and Alexey, went with Veslovsky to prepare a boat at the bathing place, and later walked in with the steward and doctor while with Princess Varvara. In chapter 180, Anna revealed that Betsy had had an affair with Tushkevitch while deceiving her husband.
