Sorli

Also known as: Sorle · First appears: Elder Edda · The Song of the Sun · Part 1

In the Song of the Sun, Sorli trusted Vigolf, his brother’s murderer, but Vigolf and his companions feigned friendship and promised him gold. On the second day, at Rygiardal, they wounded and killed him.

In Gudrun’s Incitement, Sorli is one of the sons of Gudrun and Jonakr, alongside Erp and Hamdir. After Svanhild was killed by Jormunrek, Gudrun urged her sons to avenge their sister and brought them armor. In the Lay of Hamdir, Sorli and Hamdir killed Erp on the way, then attacked Jormunrek’s hall and killed many Goths; Sorli fell at the front of the mansion.

In the Poetical Diction, Sorli is also called Sorle. There, he and Hamdir cut off Jormunrek’s hands and feet while he slept; Jormunrek ordered his men to stone them, and both fell.
