Hero Tales and Legends of the Serbians

Vlah-Ali

Also known as: Ali · Family: Turks · Role: chieftain · First appears: Chapter V · Banovitch Strahinya · Part 1

In Chapter V · Banovitch Strahinya, Vlah-Ali, an independent Turkish chieftain, attacked and pillaged Banovitch Strahinya’s castle, captured his servants, and took the wife of Strahinya to his tent near the field of Kossovo, making her his new slave. He was deeply attached to her and promised to escort her to Yedrenet, where thirty maids would attend her.

When the wife of Strahinya recognized her husband approaching, she roused Vlah-Ali; a fierce combat began between him and Banovitch Strahinya. Though she warned Vlah-Ali that Strahinya was her husband and that he was in danger, she then struck Strahinya’s head with a piece of the sabre. At the bitter moment, Caraman distracted Vlah-Ali, allowing Strahinya to throw him down and kill him.
