the wife of Strahinya

Also known as: Strahinya's wife / the faithless woman · Family: Serbians · Role: wife · First appears: Chapter V · Banovitch Strahinya · Part 1

In Chapter V · Banovitch Strahinya, Vlah-Ali captured Strahinya’s wife and took her to his tent, where he made her his slave. When she recognized her husband approaching, she woke Vlah-Ali and warned him who the horseman was. As the men fought, she struck Strahinya on the head with a piece of the sabre, cutting through his crest and helmet.

Strahinya defeated Vlah-Ali and carried his wife to her father, Youg Bogdan; Caraman held her fast but left her unharmed. When Strahinya told Bogdan and his sons what she had done, Bogdan ordered them to kill their sister. Strahinya stopped them, saying, “She is but a frail and easily misguided woman!” He said he would not kill her and that she would remain dear to him.
