Calchas
Family: The Greeks · Role: counselor · First appears: Book XII · Part 3
Calchas recalled his prophecy that the Greeks would lay waste to Ilium in the tenth year, and urged sending Diomedes and Odysseus to bring Achilles’ son Neoptolemus from Scyros. Later, he called for Aeneas to be spared, crying, “Forbear against Aeneas' noble head To hurl the bitter dart, the deadly spear!”
In Book XIV, Calchas refused to sail with the Achaeans because he foresaw their destruction at the Rocks Capherean. When they departed, Amphilochus stayed with him.
