At the Trojan plain, Diomedes killed Alcibie and Derimacheia. After he and Achilles nearly fought over Thersites’ death, they heeded their comrades’ pleas and reconciled. In a wrestling match at Troyland, he and Aias each threw the other before Nestor stopped them; they kissed and made peace, then shared four handmaids given by Thetis between their ships.
Later, Diomedes gave his friend Sthenelus a horse, whose racing brought him second place. When Menelaus counselled retreat, Diomedes urged the army to prepare for battle. In the tenth year, he and Odysseus sailed to Scyros to bring Neoptolemus to the Argives; after arriving near Ilium, they helped drive Eurypylus son of Telephus and his men from the wall. Odysseus gave Diomedes battle-gear taken from Socus.
At Lemnos, Diomedes and Odysseus brought Philoctetes and his bow back to the Greek host. In the fighting, Diomedes killed Eumaeus, Menon, Amphinous, Laodocus, Coroebus, Eurydamas, Ilioneus, and Eurycoon.
