Judas (son of Sepphoris)

Also known as: Judas · Family: Jewish · Role: teacher of the laws · First appears: Book I, Chapter 33

Judas, a teacher of the laws, was identified as the son of Sepphoris. In Book I, Chapter 33, he and Matthias (son of Margalus) were described as the two most skillful men in the laws of their country in Jerusalem.

At Jerusalem, their followers let themselves down from the temple roof at midday and cut down the golden eagle from the temple gate. Herod (son of Antipater and Cypros) then ordered the eagle-cutters and their rabbins to be burnt alive, while the others who were caught were handed over to be put to death.
