The Mabinogion

Caradawc

Family: Britain · Role: father of Eudav · First appears: THE DREAM OF MAXEN WLEDIG 2

In The Dream of Maxen Wledig, Eudav is identified as the son of Caradawc. In Branwen the Daughter of Llyr, Caradawc is named the son of Bran and, at Edeyrnion, is left with Heveydd Hir, Unic Glew Ysgwyd, Iddic the son of Anarawc Gwalltgrwn, Fodor the son of Ervyll, Gwlch Minascwrn, Llassar the son of Llaesar Llaesgygwyd, and Pendaran Dyved as ministers governing the Island, with “Caradawc the son of Bran was the chief amongst them.”

At London, Caswallawn conquers the Island of the Mighty and becomes king. He does not slay Caradawc because Caradawc is his nephew, the son of his cousin; but after Caswallawn kills six of the men, “Caradawc's heart broke for grief thereof,” and Caradawc dies grieving.
