Caswallawn
Family: Island of the Mighty · Role: king · First appears: BRANWEN THE DAUGHTER OF LLYR 3
In Here Is the Story of Lludd and Llevelys, Caswallawn is named as one of the sons of Beli the Great, alongside Lludd, Nynyaw, and Llevelys. In Branwen the Daughter of Llyr, he conquers the Island of the Mighty and is crowned King in London: “Caswallawn, the son of Beli, has conquered the Island of the Mighty, and is crowned King in London.” He comes upon Caradawc and his men, slays six of them, but does not wish to kill Caradawc because Caradawc is his nephew and the son of his cousin; Caradawc dies grieving over what he has seen.
In Manawyddan the Son of Llyr, Pwyll goes to Caswallawn at Oxford to tender his homage and receives an honourable welcome. Manawyddan also tenders his homage to Caswallawn, though Caswallawn says that, while Manawyddan is his cousin, it grieves him to see anyone in the place of his brother Bendigeid Vran.
