King Brahmadatta of Vārāṇasī (the elder brother installed by Suparṇa)
Role: king · First appears: Chapter XII
In Chapter XII, after the younger bird king threw the original King Brahmadatta of Vārāṇasī into the sea, he installed his elder brother on the throne at Vārāṇasī. The new king was given the name Brahmadatta and married Suśroṇī, the herdswoman’s daughter. He agreed to let Suparṇa carry her to Kaśerudvīpa each day and return her at night.
Later, Brahmadatta banished Suśroṇī and Āśuga from the city on the same ass. At the royal palace, after the ministers arrived with clothes and ornaments, he restored her to her former position.
