The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle

Everth

Role: king · First appears: A.D. 661–684

In 678, King Everth drove Wilfrid from his bishopric, and in 679 he fought Ethelred son of Penda. In 684, he sent an army against the Scots under his alderman Bright; the following year, he commanded Cuthbert to be consecrated bishop.

In 685, Everth was slain by the North Sea along with a large army, on the thirteenth day before the calends of June. His brother Elfrith succeeded him as king. Everth was the son of Oswy; his sister Ostritha, queen of Ethelred, was slain by the Southumbrians in 697. A record under 755 identifies Offa as Everth’s father.
