In Chapter IV · Prince Marko Tells Whose the Empire Shall Be, Despot Ouglesha disputed the Empire’s inheritance with his brothers, King Voukashin and Voivode Goyko. When Marko was asked to name the heir, his mother Yevrossima urged him to tell the truth rather than please his father or satisfy the ambitions of his uncles, Ouglesha and Goyko.
In Chapter XIII · The Building of Skadar (Scutari), Ouglesha and his brothers were told by the veela of Skadar that Stoyan and Stoyana must be immured in the fortress’s foundations, and that whichever wife brought food to the workmen should be immured there instead.
