The Fall of Troy

Nireus

Family: The Greeks · Role: warrior · First appears: Book VI · Part 3

In Book VI, Part 3, Nireus fought alongside Teucer as a friend, as they vowed, “To rescue these slain friends, or fall ourselves”. He was struck beneath the ribs by Eurypylus son of Telephus and fell; the Danaans rescued him and Machaon, though few carried them to the ships. Eurypylus son of Telephus mocked Nireus’s beauty as he lay in the dust.

By Book VII, Part 1, Nireus and Machaon had died. The Greeks mourned them together and raised one mound over them both.
