Machaon
Family: The Greeks · Role: warrior · First appears: Book VI · Part 3
In Book VI, Part 3, Machaon fought beside his friend Teucer, while his brother Podaleirius was with the wounded men near the ships. When Eurypylus son of Telephus and Machaon wounded one another, Eurypylus struck Machaon through the breast, and Machaon fell. The Danaans rescued him and Nireus, though few carried them to the ships.
After hearing that his brother had been killed, Podaleirius rose in anger and armed himself for battle. By Book VII, Part 1, Machaon and Nireus had died; the Greeks mourned them together and raised one mound over them. They honoured Machaon for his deep wisdom.
