Myths of the Iroquois

boy (Chapter 047)

Role: son · First appears: The Hunter And His Faithless Wife

One day, Hemlock Bows’s son was born, and his father was very fond of him. After Hemlock Bows’s wife drove him and his sister, little girl (Chapter 047), out into the cold and snow, the boy carried her along as he searched for a turkey; while he was away, a bear carried her off.

At a lake, a woman and her daughter found the boy alive inside a fish and rescued him. He later got his father, sister, and dog away, then set fire to the cabin where his mother was and she died. His father married the woman by the lake, and the boy married her daughter; “so they were happy at last.”
