Manoharā

Family: Kinnarīs · Role: Kinnarī princess · First appears: Chapter V

In Chapter V, Manoharā, daughter of the Kinnarī king Druma, went to bathe at the Brahmasabhā lake with five hundred Kinnarīs when the hunter Phalaka captured her with the Amogha-chain. Phalaka presented her to Sudhana, who took her to Hastināpura. That same night, the Purohita persuaded King Dhana to prepare to have her killed, but after a time Manoharā escaped into the air before the preparations were carried out.

At the Rishi’s hermitage, Manoharā left her ring and directions for Sudhana in case he came searching for her. When Sudhana learned that his father had caused her to flee, he set out for the capital of the Kinnarī king and reunited with her there. After Druma’s anger subsided, he promised to give Manoharā to Sudhana as his wife, and then did so, surrounded by a thousand Kinnarīs.

After a time, Druma let Manoharā leave with Sudhana, bestowing jewels, pearls, gold, and other wealth upon her. They returned to Hastināpura, where King Dhana invested Sudhana with regal power.
