King Dhana
Also known as: Dhana · Family: North Panchāla · Role: king · First appears: Chapter V
In Chapter V, King Dhana and his wife had no children until a son, Sudhana, was born to them at Hastināpura. Dhana named him Sudhana and later bestowed three wives upon him. He appointed the Brahman who attached himself to him as Purohita and gave him much property.
Afterwards, Dhana ordered Sudhana to march with the troops and subdue the rebellious mountaineers. That same night, the Purohita persuaded Dhana to prepare to have Manoharā killed; she escaped before the preparations could be carried out. When Sudhana learned what his father had done and resolved to seek her, Dhana ordered watchers to prevent him from leaving the city.
Sudhana later returned to Hastināpura with Manoharā, and Dhana invested him with regal power.
