Legends of the Gods

Thoth

Family: Egyptian gods · Role: god · First appears: The Legend of the Destruction of Mankind · Chapter IV

In the Legend of the Destruction of Mankind, Ra appoints Thoth to act in his place, calls him the Asti of Ra, and gives him authority as governor. Ra also grants him power over the two heavens and their light.

In the Legend of Horus of Behutet and the Winged Disk, Thoth names Khent-abt and Tchalt, and declares Heru-Behutet Lord of Mesent. During a storm, he recites protective chapters for Ra’s boat and the blacksmiths’ boats, names the water the Sea of journeying, and places the image of the Winged Disk in every sanctuary and temple.

In the Legend of the Death of Horus through the Sting of a Scorpion, Thoth is named as a son of Ra, and Tem and the Company of the gods command him to heal Horus for Isis and others under the knife. He comes in the Divine Boat to heal them, declares Horus’s protection established and says that he lives for his mother. With Ra, Sekhet and Heka, he protects Osiris by magical power, and later declares the poison powerless.
