Andromeda

First appears: Apollodorus, Library 2.4

🌐 Also appears in: The Metamorphoses of Ovid (as Andromeda)

Andromeda was the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiepea. After Ammon foretold deliverance if she were exposed as prey to the monster, she was left in that danger at Ethiopia, where Perseus saw her, loved her, and promised Cepheus he would kill the monster in exchange for her as his wife. “These terms having been sworn to, Perseus withstood and slew the monster and released Andromeda.”

Andromeda had first been betrothed to Phineus, Cepheus’s brother, but she married Perseus, with whom she had Perses, Alcaeus, Sthenelus, Heleus, Mestor, Electryon, and Gorgophone.
