Greek Mythology

Gorgophone

Family: Danaid · Role: princess · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 1.9

Gorgophone, a Danaid princess, was married to Perieres; Apollodorus records that he “married Gorgophone, daughter of Perseus.” In the later account of Library 2.1, Danaus and Elephantis are named in connection with her birth alongside Hypermnestra, and she was given as the wife of Proteus.

Library 2.4 again identifies her as a daughter of Perseus, while Andromeda is mentioned in the same account as the mother of his sons. Later, Gorgophone bore Tyndareus, Icarius, Aphareus, and Leucippus.
