Eber
Role: father of Peleg and Joktan · First appears: Noah's Descendants Spread Abroad
Eber, son of Shem, named his son Peleg because he prophesied that the earth would be divided in Peleg’s time; the division took place toward the end of Peleg’s life. Eber’s other son was Joktan, whose name referred to the shortening of human lifespans in his time.
Later, Jacob fled from Esau and hid at Eber’s house for fourteen years, where he learned the Lord’s ways and commandments.
