Parthenopaeus
Family: Arcadia · Role: leader · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 1.9
🌐 Also appears in: Greek Tragedy — The Same Myth, Three Voices (as Parthenopaeus)
Parthenopaeus is an Arcadian leader. In Apollodorus, Library 1.9, he is listed among the children of Talaus, while Library 3.6 calls him “Parthenopaeus, son of Melanion, was an Arcadian.” Library 3.9 gives Atalanta as his mother and names Melanion or Ares as his father; later, Promachus is identified as his son.
In Library 3.6, Amphidicus is said to have slain Parthenopaeus, though another account attributes his death to Periclymenus, son of Poseidon: “But Euripides says that Parthenopaeus was slain by Periclymenus, son of Poseidon.” Amphidicus and Periclymenus are therefore named as his enemies.
