Acca
Family: Church · Role: prelate · First appears: Book III · Chap. XIII
Acca, a prelate of the Church, was brought up from boyhood among the clergy of Bosa, bishop of York, and instructed there. On a journey to Rome, he travelled with Wilfrid, staying for some time with Wilbrord, from whom he heard accounts of wonders wrought at the relics of a revered king; he later related such accounts to Bede, including one told to him by trusted brothers of a monastery.
By c. 705, Acca succeeded Wilfrid as bishop of Hagustald, where he enriched the church of the blessed Apostle Andrew with adornments and workmanship, relics, altars, sacred vessels, and a library. He also brought Maban to instruct himself and his clergy in Church music for twelve years.
