Bran (son of Febal)
Also known as: Bran, son of Febal · Family: Tuatha de Danaan · Role: father of Conn Crither · First appears: The Gods · The Ever-living Living Ones · His Call to Bran
Febal was Bran (son of Febal)’s parent. After hearing music and falling asleep, Bran awoke to find a silver branch with white blossoms beside him, then set out to sea with three companies of nine. After two days and two nights of rowing, Manannan met them and said he was Manannan, son of Lir. At the Island of Joy, Bran left one of his men behind when the man joined the islanders in staring.
Bran and his company reached the Land of Women, where they entered a grand house and were given food and drink that never ran out. Though the woman warned them they would repent of returning, they set out for Ireland. At Srub Bruin, the people said, “We know of no such man,” though Bran’s voyage was in their very old stories. He told them of his wanderings, bade them farewell, and was not heard of thereafter.
Later, Conn Crither, Bran’s son, sent Taistellach to ask Bran to gather the Tuatha de Danaan for help. Bran went to Dun Sesnain in Ui Conall Gabra, where they were feasting, and began gathering them.
