In Book 8, Chapter 4, Stymphelus was one of the five sons of Elatus, alongside Æpytus, Pereus, Cyllen, and Ischys. He was the father of Agamedes and Gortys.
In Chapter 22, Stymphelus is described as the great-grandson of Arcas, son of Callisto, and as the founder of the town of Stymphelus. Its people later joined the Argolic League by choice.
