Poliahu
Also known as: Cold-bosom · Role: princess · First appears: Chapter VII
In Chapter VII at Kohala, Poliahu and Aiwohikupua confirmed their betrothal by exchanging cloaks. She gave him her snow mantle and told him to seek her on the White Mountain when he remembered their vows. In Chapter VIII, after one month, her supernatural power revealed that Aiwohikupua had gone after Laieikawai, though Poliahu had prepared to wed him.
In Chapter XVIII, Poliahu and Aiwohikupua were united in marriage at Waiulaula and returned to live in Kauai. After Hinaikamalama told the gathering that Aiwohikupua was married to Poliahu, Poliahu spread her cold mantle over Hinaikamalama, who grew numb. Angry at Hinaikamalama’s story, Poliahu went back to White Mountain. In Chapter XIX, Poliahu and her companions left Kauai by morning, as did Hinaikamalama. In Chapter XXVI, Aiwohikupua summoned Kauai’s virgins to choose two wives in place of Poliahu and Hinaikamalama.
