Liudeger

In Adventure IV, Liudeger and his brother Liudegast announced that they would march on Gunther’s land, and Liudeger summoned more than forty thousand men for the campaign. When Siegfried’s forces raided Saxon lands, Liudeger met him in battle. Learning that Siegfried had captured Liudegast, he recognized his opponent, lowered his banners, and sought peace. He was taken with Liudegast as a hostage to Gunther’s land; Gunther agreed to free them if they stayed, and Liudeger pledged his hand as surety.

In Adventure XV, thirty-two men posing as Liudeger’s men brought Gunther a false report that Liudeger and Liudegast had declared a feud against him.
