Liudegast

In Adventure IV, Liudegast and Liudeger announced that they would march on Gunther’s land, and Liudegast gathered twenty thousand knights for the journey. When Siegfried’s forces raided Saxon land, Siegfried defeated Liudegast in combat, took him captive, and brought him to Gunther’s men. Liudegast begged for his life and offered his lands; Gunther welcomed him as a captive and agreed to free him and Liudeger if they gave surety to remain.

In Adventure XV, men passing themselves off as Liudeger’s men falsely reported to Gunther that Liudegast and Liudeger had declared a feud against him.
