The Legends of the Jews, Volume I

Lot

Role: father of Paltit · First appears: Abraham Emigrates To Haran

Lot left his country with his father, Haran, and Abraham for Haran. After strife among their herdsmen, he separated from Abraham, and when Sodom was despoiled, he was taken captive. Abraham helped him escape; Lot had a daughter, Paltit, born shortly afterward.

In Sodom, Lot was appointed chief judge on the day the angels came. His wife revealed the presence of their guests to a neighbor. The angels brought Lot and his family out before the cities of the plain were destroyed; Lot pleaded for Zoar to be spared, and the angel granted his request. As Abraham watched smoke rise from Sodom, he prayed for Lot’s deliverance, and God granted his petition.

Lot died at the age of 142. His sons were Moab and Ammon.
