Irij
Family: Irán · Role: son of Feridún · First appears: Feridún and his Three Sons · Part 1
When Feridún’s sons had grown up, Irij went with Sílim and Túr to Yemen, where they married the three daughters of its king. Feridún later divided his empire among them, giving Irán to Irij, while Sílim received Rúm and Kháwer and Túr Túrán. Discontented with the division, Sílim and Túr joined against their younger brother and planned to take his kingdom.
Warned by Feridún, Irij said he would rather give up his throne than fight his brothers. He went to Turkistán, where Sílim and Túr received him kindly, and renounced the throne and diadem, content to lead a private life. Túr then killed him with a dagger and sent his embalmed head to Feridún, who mourned him and buried the head in a favorite garden.
Irij’s wife, Mahafríd, later gave birth to a daughter. Feridún gave her in marriage to Pishung, and their son Minúchihr resembled Irij and Feridún.
