Pausanias' Description of Greece

Aeropus

Family: Arcadians · Role: father of Echemus · First appears: Book 1 · Chapter 41

According to the Tegean legend, Aerope, daughter of Cepheus, died in childbirth at Cresium, and her son Aeropus continued to nurse from her after her death. The people said Ares had caused this miraculous nourishment, and named the boy Aeropus.

Later accounts identify Aeropus as the father of Echemus, who became king of the Arcadians. One genealogy gives Echemus as the son of Aeropus, son of Cepheus, son of Aleus.
