the Star (Tale 14)

Family: Arikara · Role: husband · First appears: Tale 14 · The Girl Who Married a Star · Part 1

In Tale 14, the girl climbed into another world, where the Star revealed that he had lured her there by becoming a porcupine. He told her, “I am the Star that you saw and that you said you liked,” and became her husband. Many years later, she gave birth to their son, the boy (Tale 14).

In Part 5, when the Snake was inside the boy (Tale 14)’s skull, the Star called on the Sun to move nearer and heat it. Once the Snake crawled out, the boy stood up and caught it by the neck.
