Lucterius
Also known as: Literius / Luterius · Family: Cadurci · Role: leader · First appears: The Gallic War, Book VII, 1–8
In Book VII of the Gallic War, Vercingetorix sent Lucterius, a Cadurcan, into the country of the Ruteni, whom he gained over to the Arverni. He then advanced into the country of the Nitiobriges and Gabali and received hostages from both peoples. After these efforts, “Lucterius now checked and forced to retreat” by the Roman garrisons, Caesar marched into the country of the Helvii.
In Book VIII, after a defeat, Lucterius joined forces with Drapes as they marched toward the province, pursued by Caius Caninius Rebilus and two legions. Together they seized Uxellodunum and persuaded its inhabitants to join them, leaving two thousand men to hold the town when they marched out with the rest. When Caninius attacked Lucterius’s grain convoy, its escort was destroyed; Lucterius escaped with a few followers but did not return to camp. He later fell into the hands of Epasnactus, who delivered him as a prisoner to Caesar.
