Peleus
Family: Æacidæ · Role: son of Æacus · First appears: Book 1 · Chapter 37
Peleus, son of Æacus, fled with Telamon after Phocus was murdered. The account says they were sons of Endeis, while Phocus was the son of her sister Thetis; it also recounts that Peleus deliberately struck Phocus with a stone during a contest. In Book 10, after Phocus returned to Ægina, Peleus contrived his death.
In Book 3, Peleus handed Achilles over to Chiron for his education. According to Homer, Peleus vowed to cut his hair for the river Spercheus if Achilles returned safely from Troy. In Book 5, Peleus wrestled Jason in an even match, and seized Thetis as a serpent threatened to strike him.
