The householder of the hill district (Chapter 030)

Also known as: uncle · Role: householder · First appears: Chapter XXX

In Chapter XXX, the householder of the hill district had a daughter after marrying. He employed the orphan son of a householder as a day-labourer and promised to give him his daughter as a wife if he worked satisfactorily. At a large assembly, however, he publicly refused, saying, “I certainly will not give my daughter to this man, who works for me as a day-labourer.”

On the seventh day at the king’s palace, after the oxen bore witness, the king ordered him to give his daughter to the youth. The householder then gave his daughter in marriage to him.
