Custennin, also known as the herdsman and the son of Dyfnedig, is named in GERAINT THE SON OF ERBIN as the father of Erbin and Goreu: “Goreu the son of Custennin.” In KILHWCH AND OLWEN OR THE TWRCH TRWYTH, he identifies himself as Dyfnedig’s son and Yspaddaden Penkawr’s brother, saying that Yspaddaden Penkawr oppressed him because of his possession.

In chapter 7, his son passes secretly through the castle wards and is thereafter called Goreu the son of Custennin.
