Herodotus' Histories

Perseus

Family: Egyptian · Role: son of Danae · First appears: Book 2 · §81–91

At Chemmis, Perseus was said to have been born to Danae, and the people traced his descent through Danaos and Lynkeus. A temple there was dedicated to him, and he commanded the people to celebrate an athletic contest in his honour.

Later, Perseus, the son of Danae and Zeus, took Andromeda to wife. They had a son named Perses, whom Perseus left behind with Kepheus, who had no male offspring; the race was named after Perses.
