Antiope
Family: Amazons · Role: mother of unnamed twins · First appears: Book 1 · Chapter 2
In Book 1, Antiope handed Themiscyra to Theseus after he and Hercules besieged it, and was later shot by Molpadia, whom Theseus killed. She gave birth to twins and left them in a grotto. Another account says she was carried off by Pirithous and Theseus.
In Book 2, Antiope, daughter of Nycteus, was given up by Lamedon after Epopeus died of his wound. As she was being taken to Thebes, she gave birth near Eleutheræ to Zethus and Amphion. In Book 9, she went mad and wandered throughout Greece; Phocus cured her and made her his wife. Antiope and Phocus were buried together. Book 10 attributes her madness to the anger of Dionysus, and says she married Phocus, “of whom she was passionately fond.”
