Maujeekewis
Role: second eldest brother · First appears: The Red Swan · Part 1
In The Red Swan, Maujeekewis is the second eldest of three brothers. Their parents died when they were young, leaving them destitute; the eldest taught his brothers the arts of the forest, and when he proposed setting out to find wives, Maujeekewis and Odjibwa persuaded him to stay. Maujeekewis disapproved when Odjibwa later sought wives, asking, “What will you do with those you propose to get?”
In The Red Swan · Part 5, Odjibwa returned and told his brothers he had brought each of them a wife. In The Red Swan · Part 6, he gave Maujeekewis a wife, saying, “My brother, here is one for you, and live happily.” One day Maujeekewis and the eldest brother (Red Swan legend) urged Odjibwa to leave, hoping to get his wife. When Odjibwa returned, he found them quarrelling over her; he shot both brothers dead with his magic arrows.
