Poseidon
Also known as: the Earth-holder and Earth-Shaker · Family: Olympians · Role: god · First appears: The Astronomy
In The Catalogues of Women and Eoiae, Eurynome bore Bellerophon after lying with Poseidon, and Tyro bore Neleus and Pelias to him. The same works name Laestrygon and Minyas as his sons. In The Great Eoiae, Mecionice joined with Poseidon in love at Hyria and bore Euphemus.
In Homeric Hymn V: To Aphrodite, Hestia refused Poseidon and Apollo when they sought to wed her. Elsewhere, The Astronomy names Orion as his son; The Cypria calls Cycnus son of Poseidon his son; and The Contest of Homer and Hesiod identifies Aethusa as his daughter. In Homeric Hymn XXII: To Poseidon, the gods allotted him a two-fold office as tamer of horses and saviour of ships.
