Rúdábeh

Family: Kábul · Role: daughter of Mihráb · First appears: Rúdábeh · Part 1

After hearing Mihráb praise Zál, Rúdábeh fell in love with him and confided her feelings to her attendants, who agreed to help bring them together. In spring, they approached Zál on her behalf; after the lovers met and pledged themselves to each other, Zál sought Sám’s approval, which he granted while asking that the union remain secret until his return.

When Mihráb learned of their arrangement, he drew his dagger and tried to reach Rúdábeh’s chamber, but Síndokht restrained him. With everyone’s approval, Rúdábeh and Zál married. She later gave birth to Rustem, and advice from Símúrgh helped her recover from danger. In the Story of Sohráb, Rúdábeh mourned Sohráb’s death.
