Phoenix
Family: gods · Role: son of Amyntor · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 3.1
🌐 Also appears in: The Iliad (as Phoenix)
Phoenix is named as a son of Agenor and Telephassa, while another account makes Europa his daughter rather than Agenor’s. He is also identified as the son of Amyntor, who blinded him; Phthia was his father’s concubine. Peleus brought him to Chiron, who restored his sight, and then made him king of the Dolopians. Phoenix accompanied Achilles, and one account names Adonis as his son by Alphesiboea.
During the war, Odysseus and Phoenix were sent to Lycomedes at Scyros and persuaded him to release Neoptolemus. On the journey, Phoenix died, and Neoptolemus buried him.
